Obituary of James William Russell
James William Russell Jr. (Jim), age 81, passed away at 6:00 pm July 23, 2015 at a hospital in Lone Tree, CO with family at his side.
The graveside funeral and burial will be held July 28, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Parker Cemetery in Parker, CO. provided by Ponderosa Valley Funeral Services. Jim was preceded in death by parents Annie Dudgeons and James William Russell and three older brothers Morris, John, and Robert Lee Russell. Jim is lovingly remembered by younger sister Jo Ann Blevins, wife of 62 years Lois Nadine Allison Russell, son David Timothy Russell, grandchildren Timothy James Russell and Crystal Ann Yearick, and great grandson Brody James Yearick.
Jim was born December 21, 1933 in Taylor County, KY where he was raised on a farm and taught the true meaning of hard work. He also develop a strong passion for the outdoors. He loved fishing and gardening of which he spent most of his free time. Jim was always interested in education but was only able to make it to the 8th grade due to the demand of the farm. His adventurous spirit led him to leave home at 17 years old to explore different opportunities and more so when he married Nadine at 19., he moved to different states including Illinois, Arizona, and Michigan, discovering different occupations and learning trades. He got involved in several job and investment opportunities, but to no avail. On his last dime, he brought the family to Colorado for a fresh start in the 60’s and that is where they would remain. In the 80’s, father and son joined forces, bought an excavating business, and turned it into a very successful family run business. They developed most of the town of Parker in the 80-90’s and made a wonderful life for themselves. Fittingly, one of Jims last words were “bury me in Parker”, the town he made, his home.
Jim’s real enjoyment came in 1983 when his first grandchild was born, a boy, TJ. And again in 1985, this time a girl, Crystal. Jims pride and joy was being with his grandkids. He was a great babysitter and enjoyed teaching them about working with their hands, building things, gardening, and of course fishing. The bond between Jim and his grandchildren was a magical one. His large stature provided protection, his gentile touch gave comfort, and his words gave guidance. He was adored by his grandchildren and served as a great teacher and mentor. In 2013 he was blessed to receive a new title, Great Grandpa. The happiest times in the last 2 years of Jim’s life was getting to spend time with his great grandson Brody, as they instantly bonded. A relationship so special to witness. Jim made a lasting impression on anyone who met him. With his unique physical characteristics, witty sense of humor, friendly demeanor, and compassion to help anyone, he was quick to make friends. Even quicker to turn friends into family. He will be missed dearly by all, but will live forever in our hearts.
